Bei New Republic wurde vor ein Tagen ein längerer Artikel über den Online-Händler Zappos veröffentlicht (A radical experiment at Zappos to end the office workplace as we know it). Darin beschreibt der Autor unter anderem das Projekt „Supercloud“, bei dem die Zappos-Architektur in die von Amazon integriert werden soll (Zappos gehört seit 2009 zu Amazon). Verschiedenste Herausforderungen führen dazu, dass am Zappos-Shop – von kleinen Bugfixes abgesehen – seit zwei Jahren nicht mehr weiterentwickelt wird.
Barry Van Beek, the project’s program manager, told me he thought Supercloud was the single largest e-commerce replatforming in history. “No one has ever attempted this before, on this scale.” Van Beek, who has been at Zappos for eight years, said Supercloud has about 20 different teams, with 250 to 350 people, including contractors, working with more than 100 different Amazon teams.
